Obituary

Aaron Calvin Thorn, 71, of Wintersville, Ohio achieved his transition to glory at UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on November 22, 1950, to the late Willie F. Thorn Sr. and Cornelia (Thompson) Thorn.

Aaron graduated from the former Wintersville High School (now Indian Creek High School) with the class of 1970. He attended the Ohio State University for one year before enlisting in the United States Army. Aaron served his country as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. Aaron served in the United States Army for six years which included a one-year tour of duty in Korea and two years of Active Reserves being Honorably Discharged in 1978. He was a former member of the American Legion Post #274 Steubenville, Ohio.

Aaron had a quiet, gentle spirit, and he did not talk much, but he would lend a helping hand to whomever and wherever he saw a need. He was an over-the-top Oakland Raiders Fan. And his second team was the Dallas Cowboys. Aaron was employed for a number of years at the former Louis Berkman Company of Steubenville, Ohio, until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Aaron was preceded in death by his brother John Shear, Nathaniel Shear, Willie F. Thorn Jr., Julius C. Thorn, James Thorn, and Handy Thorn; sisters Willie Mae Thorn, Anna L. Scott, Vera Sligh, and Rosa Williams.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his stepdaughter Anteria Quiana Jones; granddaughters Myquia Tiasha Jones, Kharyzma Jerkala Thompson, and Nevaeh Lashay Jones; a host of great-grandchildren; three sisters Barbara (Thomas) Turner-Hymes of Daytona, FL; Sally Whitfield of Elyria, OH; and Sandi (Paul) Rue of Steubenville, OH; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 11:00 am for the viewing with the funeral services beginning at 1:00 pm at the Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church located at 708 North 5th Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Interment will take place at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania
