Aleta Regina Locust Monroe, 79, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away on June 5, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center East. Aleta faced a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma, a journey she met with grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
Born in Steubenville on June 18, 1945, Aleta lived a life marked by kindness, love, and deep devotion to her family and faith. A lifelong, dedicated member of Second Baptist Church, she was known for her warmth, compassion, and infectious laughter—touching everyone she met.
Her greatest joy was being a mother to her two beloved sons, Martinez (Marty) Monroe and Erik Locust, both of Steubenville. Marty is a permanent resident at Shaffer Plaza, a group home for individuals with developmental disabilities—a place close to Aleta's heart.
Aleta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl Locust; brothers John, Eugene, and Ronald Locust; and her sister, Marjorie Locust Wilson.
She is survived by her sons; several loving nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Steven Wilson, whose time, care, and unwavering support—driving her to medical appointments in Steubenville and Pittsburgh, assisting with shopping, and always being present—brought comfort and joy to her life.
A memorial service celebrating Aleta's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Second Baptist Church, with Reverend Maurice Lawson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Aleta's memory to Shaffer Plaza, in recognition of the care and support it provides for her son, Marty, and others.
"Her laughter echoed in our hearts. Her love remains with us forever."
