Obituary

Mr. Arthur James Simmons Jr., 62, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his residence. He was born on October 16, 1961, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the union of the late Arthur J. Simmons, Sr. and Annie Lou (Coven) Simmons.

Arthur was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Steubenville, Ohio, and in later years attended online.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army after graduating from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Arthur was affectionately known as "Peaches" or "Heavy". He was an avid and devoted Dallas Cowboys' fan all of his life. Arthur owned and operated Sabbrett Hot Dog Cart for over twenty-five years, in Atlantic City. He truly left a lasting impact on the community he served. After his retirement, he ran the tire division for Carrion Auto Repair Shop.

He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and riding his beloved scooter in his spare time. He truly liked Di'Carlos Pizza and would always make a visit while in Steubenville.  His favorite dish was seafood paella and he had it every year for his birthday. He was also crazy about his sister's (Patricia G. Simmons) homemade pineapple upside down cake. Arthur also took delight in the small things, such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Above all, he cherished all the special moments he had with his family.  He had a nickname for everyone he held dear.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann Simmons, Patricia G. Simmons, Faye R. Terry, Janice Smith, Pamela R. Harley; two brothers, Jerry N. Simmons, and Dougie Whetzel; a special sister- in-law, Kelly Jean Bulloch; one nephew, Steve Terry; and a niece, Cierra Grant.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Melissa Simmons; his children, Yolonda (Easton) Simmons-Powell, Natavia A. Jackson, James Brown, Thomas Brown, and Malcolm Brown; siblings, Sheila (Louis) Simmons-Smith, Richard Whetzel, and Portia Whetzel-Easter; grandchildren, Josiah Simmons, Tylon Henderson, Brynn Jackson, Tommy Brown, Tamiyah Brown, Keean Brown, Kinza Brown, and Leila Brown; nieces and nephews, Carla D. Shaw-Hilyard (who he lovingly called Hudson County) and Malik A. Hilyard, Corey "Troub" (Beth) Terry, Pamela "Lil Pam" (Paul) Smith, Ann "Annie" (Timothy) Smith-Ingram, Louis "L.D." (Patricia) Smith, and Jasmine "Jasmine Faye" (Steven Mehl) DeVore; great-nieces , Raven, Timia, Timya, Tastara, I'Asia, India, Arabia, Lailah, Simone, Ellie, Quayana, DeVionne, Meccah, Kala, Enya, and Anique; great nephews, Tavin, Maurel, Taurel, Delshawn, Nasir, Zion, Danny, Shabazz, Miles, and Carter; a special cousin, Jeanette Hawkins; special niece, Tanya Terry; best friends, who were like brothers to him, Steve Williams, and Craig Williams; a host of cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

To his family, he was a "big teddy bear," he will forever be known for his kindness, his genuine love, support of others, and his giving nature.
