Arthur James "Artie" Thompson Jr. was born on April 6, 1963 in Steubenville, Ohio to Arthur J. Thompson Sr. and Donna Thompson. He passed away on May 23, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Affectionately known as Artie by all who knew him, he graduated from Steubenville High School in 1981 and went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army.

Artie discovered a passion for boxing at a young age, and the sport became a lifelong commitment. He shared his love and knowledge of boxing with anyone eager to learn and eventually became a respected trainer. Known to many as Coach and Champ, Artie dedicated his life to mentoring others and giving back to his community. His impact touched countless lives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lewis and Minnie Thompson, maternal grandmother Genevieve Jackson, brothers Kenneth Thomas and Dan Thompson, and his best friend Simon Feaster.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Donna Thompson, father Arthur Thompson Sr. and his wife Cecelia, and siblings Gregory "Tee" Thomas, Gary Thomas, Tyrone Thomas, Tanya Howard and her husband James, and Sherry Thompson, all of Steubenville, Ohio. He is also survived by his brothers Maurice Thompson and Rashad Thompson of Gary, Indiana, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Services will take place on Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Gregory-Martin Funeral Chapel. The viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
