Atthylia Renee Hopkins, 68, of Beverly, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at her residence.
She was born on October 8, 1957, the daughter of the late John Christopher Ross of Steubenville, Ohio, and Rosalie Higgs Ross of Cat Island (Old Bight), Bahamas. Renee, as she was affectionately known, was baptized at Zion Temple Pentecostal Church in Steubenville, Ohio, and most recently was a devoted member of The Rock Church in Pittman, New Jersey.
Renee attended elementary school in New York City and secondary school in Steubenville, Ohio, graduating with the Class of 1975. She worked for many years as a bank secretary in Pittsburgh and was especially proud of her career as a civilian employee with the U.S. Army, serving as a secretary in the Recruiters Office. She was also a member of Elks Lodge 2550 in Beverly, New Jersey.
Renee was a caring soul who enjoyed watching MeTV and the Game Show Network each day. She loved handball and football and especially enjoyed watching Family Feud, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and The Andy Griffith Show. Her favorite movie was Shaft. She also enjoyed shopping on QVC and HSN, had an eye for fashion, and loved showing off the latest trends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Wendell Davis and Miriam Johnson, both of Nassau, Bahamas.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her three children, George Michael Hopkins of Beverly, New Jersey; Ashlee “Lee” Hopkins of Chicago, Illinois; and Atthylia LaNae Bennett of Westampton, New Jersey; her siblings, Rowena Bullard of Nassau, Bahamas, Johnnie Mae Ross Lewis of Pemberton, New Jersey, and Rosemarie Ross of Burlington, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Zion Temple Family Worship Center, 500 North 5th Street, Steubenville, Ohio.
Interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee, West Virginia.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.
