On Thursday, August 8, 2019, Barbara Nell Harris earned her wings as she peacefully slept away at Brightwood Center in Follansbee, West Virginia where she had been since May of 2015. Barbara was 88 years young. She was born June 17, 1931, in Paducah, Kentucky to Fatious Crouse and Nella Mae (Dunbar) Chester.

Barbara came to live in Weirton, West Virginia in 1937 at the age of 3 years old. Barbara was the Valedictorian of the 1948 graduating class of Dunbar High School.  She had been a member of Morning Star Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was active in her church and a member and secretary of the senior choir, and secretary of the missionary. Barbara loved her church family. She was also a member of the Twilight Temple Elks Lodge No. 452 in Weirton where she served as financial secretary.

She loved shopping, especially for shoes and Jewelry. Her favorite tv shows were "Jeopardy" and "The Golden Girls". Barbara also enjoyed playing cards and baseball. Her favorite song was "He Knows How Much We Can Bear".

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents;  her husband, Mr. Ulysses Harris, Sr., three brothers, James (Bogie) Bougard, Lawrence A. Chester and Robert L. Chester, Sr.

Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted niece, Deborah Bougard Dunn (Kenneth) of Las Vegas, Nevada; nephew, Calvin Bougard of Steubenville, Ohio; loving extended, adopted family, Rev. Rudy (Rosie) McAllister of Weirton, West Virginia; six step-children, Ulysess (Norma) Harris, Jr. of Wintersville, Ohio; Gwendolyn Yvonne Smith, Patricia Ann(Donald) Durr, Lorraine Harris, Richard (Sheila) Harris, and Robin (Michael) Chism, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; many step-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will convene on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 3124 Weir Ave. Weirton, West Virginia. The visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service, 12 noon. Arrangements entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.
