Calvin Dean Bougard (“Bogie”), 73, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville, Ohio, following a sudden illness.

Born on November 14, 1952, in Steubenville, Ohio, Calvin was the beloved son of the late James Edward Bougard and Maudie D. “Nookie” Bougard.

A proud graduate of Steubenville High School’s Class of 1972, Calvin was a true Big Red through and through. During his high school years, he excelled in track, football, and basketball, served as a Student Council representative, and sang with the Acapella Choir.

Following graduation, Calvin answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served aboard the USS Berkeley from 1972 until 1975 while stationed in San Diego, California.

A man of deep faith, Calvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in his Baptist faith throughout his life.

Throughout the years, Calvin worked in a variety of professions that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to serving others. His career included positions as a machinery operator at a dairy plant in Mesa, Arizona; a bus driver for the Antelope Valley Transit Authority in Lancaster, California; and a bus driver for the Steubenville Transit Authority. Most recently, he was employed by Wise Solutions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he served as a Habilitation Aide, providing compassionate care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in both residential and community settings.

Calvin was truly a caregiver at heart. He loved being of service to others and was known for his caring, calm, and laid-back personality. Affectionately described as a gentle giant by his sisters, Calvin’s kind spirit and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He found peace while fishing with his longtime friend, Dudley Prentice, enjoyed relaxing to the smooth sounds of jazz music, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Rarely was he seen without proudly wearing his favorite Steelers apparel, a reflection of his lifelong devotion to his team.

In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his brother, Mark M. Bougard; his sister, Cynthia Ann Bougard; his son, Kyle Wade; and his daughter, LaChelle R. Bougard.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his brother, Anthony Steiner (Pauline) of Richmond, Ohio; his sisters, Deborah Dunn (Kenneth) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Maudie J. Bougard of Steubenville, Ohio, and Rita Fultz (Charles) of Las Vegas, Nevada; his aunt, Ruth Steiner McCullum of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his longtime partner, Henrietta “Henny” Trice of Steubenville, Ohio; his lifelong friend, Dudley Prentice of Steubenville, Ohio; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home. The public is invited to attend Calvin’s inurnment on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery, 1720 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery entrance by 1:45 p.m., where everyone will process together to the gravesite for the inurnment service.
