Carl Napoleon Brown passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at 9:10 p.m. at Trinity Hospital in Steubenville, Ohio.
Born in Pasadena, California, Carl was the son of the late Anna “Babe” Brown Bowman and Carl Brown Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sharron Brown, and his brother, David Bowman.
Carl attended Catholic school through 1969 before continuing his education at Steubenville “Big Red” High School, graduating in June 1974. He then attended Franciscan University for one year before beginning a lifetime of service. Throughout his career, Carl worked for the United States Postal Service, served as a drug counselor at several halfway houses, and later devoted much of his retirement to fundraising for halfway houses and helping those in need.
Carl was the proud father of Courtney Lawan Brown, Christopher Michael Brown, Corinne Brown-Hill, Timmy Lawrence, Ajani Lawrence, and Brandy Lawrence. His children and grandchildren were the center of his life. He cherished every opportunity to talk with them, encourage them, and remain an active part of their lives.
He was also a devoted grandfather to Mycah Marie Hill, Cash Michael Brown, Te’Asia Lawrence, Serinty Lawrence, Arya Lawrence, Kyliaun Hill, and Jai’Zier Lawrence.
Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Carl could make people laugh almost anywhere he went. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a news enthusiast, and never missed the opportunity to engage in a spirited political discussion on Facebook. While he enjoyed football and current events, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family.
Carl leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary Lawrence Brown; his sisters, Maxanna Brooks and Cathy Mency; his children; his grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends who will forever remember his kindness, generosity, laughter, and unwavering love for family.
Carl’s laughter, compassionate spirit, dedication to helping others, and steadfast devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
