On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, Christina Williams, 97, of Wintersville, Ohio, transitioned and departed this life at Valley Hospice to begin her eternal life in her Father's Heavenly Home.
She was born on January 3, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Adolphus and Ellen Moore Dean. She graduated from the Columbus City School system and also graduated with a Teaching Degree from Ohio State University. She retired from the Hancock County School system after 25 years of teaching at Dunbar and Cove Elementary Schools. She loved making an impression on young people and stressed the importance of education.
Christina was a licensed Funeral Director and co-owned the LC Williams Funeral Home in Steubenville, Ohio with her husband, LaVerne C. Williams, until they retired. She was very active in the community and was on the Board of Directors at the YWCA, and had memberships in the National Association of Colored Women's Club, Nimble Thimble Federated Club and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was a Past President of the Buckeye State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, and she was the very first female to hold that position.
Christina truly loved Quinn AME Church and was an active and faithful member for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Trustee Board for many years. During her years as a member she was Director of the Buds of Promise Choir and later the Men's Choir.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, LaVerne C. Williams, two brothers Adolphus and George, two sisters Mavalda and Ellen. Also a great grandson Ahsan.
Christina will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by one daughter Lynn (DeWitt) Gant of Wintersville, Ohio; 4 grandchildren: Stephanie (Stephen) Lett of Cincinnati, Ohio; Bryan (Gina) Jones of Miami, Florida; E. J. Gant of Columbus, Ohio; and Tekia Gant of Steubenville, Ohio; and 9 great grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, to keep her legacy alive Sydney, Mason, Solomon, Madison, Cameron, Raniyah, Emery, Sha'Heem, and A'Keem. Also left to treasure her memories are a host of loving relatives and friends.
