David Lee Anderson “Cookie” went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2026.

He was born on August 15, 1940, in Mt. Hope, West Virginia, to the late Reverend David Havana Anderson and Mattie Lee Fletcher Anderson. He was the fifth of eight children.

David graduated from Campbell High School in 1959, where he lettered in both football and basketball. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country until 1962. He later worked at General Fireproofing and retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad as a fireman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Florence Hopkins and Sarah Hodges; and his brothers, James, Joseph, and Warren Anderson.

David leaves to cherish his memory his loving son, David Darryl Anderson; his beloved grandson, Equan Benson, both of Youngstown, Ohio; his brother, Melvin (Sue) Anderson of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; his loving nieces, Denise Hopkins Johnson of Youngstown, Ohio, and Sylvia Hopkins Dey of Columbus, Ohio; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

David was a devoted man of faith. He loved the Lord deeply and was disciplined in his walk with God. An avid churchgoer, he faithfully attended Sunday School and would even walk three miles to attend service. His love for God was evident in the way he prayed and lived his life. He impressed upon his family the importance of faith, dedication, and love.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and fellowship with friends. Known for his kind spirit and easygoing nature, David had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. His life was a testimony of faith, family, and steadfast devotion.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2003 Wilson Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44506.
