Obituary

Mr. Dwight W. Thompson, age 74, peacefully passed away on December 28, 2024, at the Pittsburgh VA Hospital. Born on October 25, 1950, Dwight was a kind, spirited, and talented man who touched the lives of everyone he met.

Dwight was baptized at an early age and was a member of Quinn A.M.E. Church, where he participated in the Young People's Division (YPD) and the Youth Adult Choir. These experiences helped foster his love for music and community engagement, which remained lifelong passions.

A proud graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, Dwight showcased his talent as a member of the Marching and Concert Band. His passion for sound and performance extended into his work as a sound engineer for the Ohio Movement Band. Known for his culinary skills and love of entertaining, Dwight delighted in hosting family and friends, always bringing people together with his joyous and fun-loving spirit.

A U.S. military veteran, Dwight served his country with honor and continued his service to the community as a proud member of the American Legion David Walker Post 274.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Andrea Johnson Thompson; his daughter, Nakia Thompson; and his stepmother, Barbara Spinner, Dwight leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

He is survived by his sons: Vernelle and Andrew Thompson of Pittsburgh, PA; Raymond Lindsay of Steubenville, OH; and Mark Whitley of Pittsburgh, PA. He also leaves behind six siblings: Calvin Thompson Jr., of Steubenville, OH; Darlene Thompson of Las Vegas, NV; Crystal (D'Andre) Harper of Mingo Junction, OH; Charisse McClelland of Mingo Junction, OH; Craig (Rahimah) Spinner of Winston, GA; and Carleton (Pamela) Spinner of San Diego, CA. Dwight was blessed with nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, his special friend Rhonda Washington, and a host of godchildren, relatives, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Gregory-Martin Funeral Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. A post-funeral reception will follow immediately in the Life Event Center.

Dwight's love for music, family, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all.
