Edith Lee Byrd Brown of Wheeling, WV passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling. She was born October 17, 1927, in Lynchburg, VA; daughter of the late Theodore Fleshman and Beatrice Johns.
Edith was preceded in death by her first husband, Purcell K. Byrd in 1972; her second husband Timothy Brown in 1993; 2 sons, Michael V. Byrd, I and Rev. DeWayne P Byrd, I and a granddaughter, Stephanie L. Hawkins.
Edith was retired from the Ohio Valley Medical Center Dietary Department. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess, church financial secretary for many of years, and she was a member of the Building Tribe Ministry for over 50 years. She was also a member of Deborah Temple #125 of Wheeling where she served as financial secretary for many years.
She is survived by 3 children, Phillip L. Byrd of Newark, Ohio; George A. Byrd and Beatrice A. Hawkins, both of Wheeling, West Virginia; a nephew she helped raise Courtney (Danielia) Gummer. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
