Obituary

Dr. Rev. Elsie Mae Toson Grant passed away on April 20, 2012 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was born December 13, 1945 in Steubenville, Ohio to the union of the late Toney Leroy and Minnie Dean Harvey Toson.

She was a graduate from Steubenville High School "Big Red". In 1962, at the age of 16, Elsie accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. In 1976 she received a certificate of special honor from The Source of Light Mission. Later in the seventies she received certification from M.A.T.S Medical Training School in Chicago, Ill. She knew her calling and in 1989, she completed The School of Bible and Ministry at the Word of Life Church. Dr. Rev. Elsie Grant completed the School of Holy Ghost and Fire Ministry in Steubenville, Ohio on September 7, 1990. In March of 1996, she obtained a diploma from Prison Fellowship Ministry of Washington, DC. In 1997, she was certified to become a seminar instructor of training through Prison Fellowship Ministry at St. Mary on the Lake College located in Maudlin, Ill. Also, in 1997 through Prison Fellowship Ministries she ministered in the Jerusalem, Israel.
In 2006, she received a Masters of Theology Degree from Beacon University in Columbia, Georgia. In June 2006, she received a proclamation from the Mayor of Steubenville proclaiming "Whereas: Reverend/Evangelist Elsie M. Grant was the guiding force in getting the Aglow involved in the Urban Mission Boot Camp, Jefferson County Children's Services, Farmers Market Scholarship Fund, Local Prison and Hospital Ministry, New Vision Café and Recovery. Pastor Grant received her Doctorate of Divinity from DTM Bible Training Center; Bible College, Moundsville, OH. She then became the Dean of the Steubenville Campus, which she introduced into the area.

Dr. Rev. Grant was elected to the board of the Steubenville, Ohio YWCA in January 2007 and that August she was appointed International President of Women of Christ through the Association of International Gospel Assembly.

Dr. Rev. Grant received her ordained Minster's License from the Association of International Gospel Assemblies, Inc. (AIGA) in Desoto, Missouri. She was Senior Pastor at The House of Faith in Steubenville since 2007. Dr. Rev. Elsie M. Grant co-hosted a local A.M radio ministry beside her sister Minister Trudy D. Toson. The radio show was a continuation of the church's ministry called "What does the Bible say." She wrote several booklets and tracts and she has ministered and facilitated several conferences, conventions, retreats, and revivals. She did so much work for the Lord and she never complained.

Elsie M. Grant retired from Weirton Steel Corporation, 'Tin Mill' after 25 years of service. From 1996 to 2005 she served on the Steering Committee for the Jefferson County National Day of Prayer Committee. In 1995, she was President of the local chapter of Aglow International and served as such until March of 2007. She was a volunteer-mentor for Jefferson County Community Action Council CCATV Mentoring Project from 1998 to 2002.
In 2008, Reverend Grant started a youth group entitled "The Community Children". She was a leader of the Home Cell Group for the Tri-State Church of God in Weirton, West Virginia. She started the Red Hats Women of God and was the Queen Mother.
She was truly the personification of "May the Work I have done speak for me."

She was preceded in death by her husband; Robert Grant, aunt; Helen Turner, brothers; Eddie James Toson and Toney Leroy Toson, Jr., and a nephew; Robert Michael Coker, Jr.
She will be lovingly remembered by, her sisters; her baby sister who was like a daughter, Minister Trudy Darlene Toson, Harriette V. (Robert) Coker, Armandy J. (Reginald VS) Ward, I, Muriel (Julius) Dow, her brother; Willie James Toson III, an uncle; Freddie 'Uncle Bannie' Toson, sisters in law; Winifred P., Carole and Linda Toson, close friends; Lena Chappel, Terri Jennings, Ruby McDile, Joyce 'Sissy' Owens, Cathy Scott, Barbara Wilson, Natalie Masters, Quintin Little, John Jr. (who was like her son), a very dear niece; Jackie Ward, The Kingdom Children-Zhane' McBride, Diamond Thompson, Princess Thompson, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family, friends and her Dawn-Dawn, her cat. She is resting comfortably with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2012 from 2-4PM and again from 6-9PM at The House of Faith, 1913 Estelle Ave, Steubenville, Ohio. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:00am at the Church. Pastor Reginald Ward, Eulogist and Pastor Chris Green and Minister Trudy D. Toson, will officiate.
