IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George R.
Platt
September 15, 1945 – August 10, 2021
George Richard Platt was born on September 15, 1945, to the now, late Catherine and Frank Platt, in Steubenville, Ohio.
Growing up George was an entertaining dancer, avid fisherman, and competitive athlete. Upon his graduation from Steubenville Big Red, he attended Edward Waters College, in Florida, with several of his high school friends. While there he was an activist, protesting the social injustices of that era. Later, he transferred to Central State University and earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics. The first of the Platt Family to graduate from college. George joined the food industry where he honed his managerial and leadership skills in Pittsburgh, at Co-Gos, and later in Cleveland, Ohio at Fisher-Fazios. He was critical in establishing the SavMor brand across Cleveland and spent the majority of his career there.
On December 26, 1988, George married Tina Cannon, and they united their families, Noel and Francis respectively. Their son Asia was born out of this union. George and Tina started and shared an Apostolic ministry. They enjoyed their family gatherings, celebrating holidays, and were both avid football fans, George a Brown's fan and Tina routing for the Steelers. As his family grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, George looked forward to cooking family meals, telling stories in his animated fashion, and enjoying the love and laughter of everyone. George and Tina's marriage lasted over thirty-two years until George departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly on August 10, 2021.
He leaves behind a grieving but loving family to mourn his loss: His wife Tina; daughter Noel Craig (Albert), sons Francis Lawson (Mary), and Asia Platt (Quiche'a); Grandchildren: Justin Platt, Shayla Lawson, Lyrik Lawson, Kiera Platt, Lukis Neufer Platt, Great-granddaughter Jaeda Platt; Siblings Valerie Caldwell, Jacqueline Platt, Sharlene Mitchell (Arnold), Carletta Williams, and Craig Platt (Theresa), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
