Gerald William Catoggio, 57, of Steubenville, Ohio, died unexpectedly while undergoing a surgical procedure on Monday, January 5, 2026, at UH Cleveland Medical Center.

Gerald was born on January 30, 1968, in Somerville, New Jersey, the son of Anthony M. Catoggio and the late Lois Anne Catoggio.Gerald founded Somerset Hills Irrigation of Dunellen, New Jersey, and successfully developed a top-tier landscape lighting and irrigation systems design and contracting firm. In addition, he served as a regional manager for Central Pro Supply Corporation and worked as a consultant and supervisor with General Plumbing Supply Corporation in New Jersey.

Gerald had a deep passion for trucks and vintage automobiles, with a special love for his favorite, a blue 1970 Chevelle SS. He enjoyed watching The Jay Leno Show and found peace working with his hands through woodworking and carving.

Gerald was a humble and private person, and behind that quiet exterior was a distinguished artist and woodworker. He seldom shared his art outside of his immediate family. Much of his beautiful artwork has been left to his loving wife, Monica, to cherish.

Above all, Gerald cherished the time he spent with the love of his life, his loyal wife, Monica. He dearly loved his only daughter, Erin, whom he spoke about with great pride.

Gerald could be described as shy, but he was a warm, open, and most generous soul to those closest to him.

Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Anne, in 2005.

He is survived by his loving wife, Monica Esther (Gallardo Echenique) Catoggio; his daughter, Erin; his father, Anthony; his brother, Michael (Judy); and a dear friend and former coworker, James Cocozello.

Gerald will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio. Arrangements are entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.

Gerald’s death was alarmingly unexpected, far too soon, and a true medical tragedy.

Gerald had accepted and surrendered to Our Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he knew and loved dearly. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
