Obituary

Grant M. "Itchy" Salter, 82, of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, Ohio. He was born on January 1, 1943, in Steubenville, Ohio, the beloved son of the late William and Lucille Salter.

Grant was a proud graduate of Madonna High School, Class of 1960. Following high school, he attended college in Pittsburgh, where he studied data processing. Known for his quiet and reserved nature, Grant was a private individual who valued hard work, loyalty, and family above all else.

Grant dedicated 38 years of service to Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, retiring as a scarfer. He was a devoted husband and father, and a man of strong character who lived his life with integrity and humility. Those who knew him remember him as a good man who showed his love through his actions rather than his words.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures. Grant loved cars and took great pride in his 1985 Trans Am, along with several other cars he cherished over the years. He enjoyed fishing, working on puzzles, reading the newspaper, and faithfully cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Grant shared 58 loving years of marriage with his wife, Mary Louise Salter. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and family.

In addition to his parents, Grant was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Salter Sr., and his nephew, Gerald Salter Jr.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Mary Louise Salter; his son, Terrance Salter; his brother, Kent Salter; his nieces, Kimberly Salter, Tonya Salter, Sonya Todd, and Dawn Jett; and his brothers and sisters in law, Lonnie and Londia Langston, Dr. Gwendolyn Yvonne Moore, Jacqueline and Joseph Butler, Lovie and Henrietta Langston, Michael and Cynthia Langston, and Sharon and Vinson Freeman. Sharon held a particularly special place in Grant's heart and was like another child to him and his wife, having spent many summers with them while growing up.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 pm at the Gregory Martin Funeral Chapel, 255 South 7th Street, Steubenville, Ohio. Reverend Samuel Ware will deliver the eulogy.

Grant will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and the steady presence he provided to those who loved him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the family he cherished.
