IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Greg Lamont
Carter
August 26, 1962 – January 20, 2024
Greg Lamont Carter was born on August 26, 1962, in Steubenville, Ohio, the beloved son of the late Earl McGee and Mary Lucy Carter. He departed this earthly life suddenly on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his residence in Lakeland, Florida.
Greg embraced the Christian faith, finding solace and strength through his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. A graduate of Steubenville "Big Red" High School in 1980, Greg's academic journey continued at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. There, he not only earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management but also became an esteemed member of the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. As one of the "Tenacious 10," he carried the principles of brotherhood with pride.
Greg's professional journey led him to serve as a Videographer for Huffmaster Crisis Response. His dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact on those around him. Outside of work, Greg was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. His passion for the team and the sport was contagious, creating cherished memories during game days and celebrations.
Greg's most cherished role was that of a devoted and loving father. He found joy in family gatherings, sharing jokes, and creating unforgettable moments at the beach. Greg's love for swimming, good food—especially steak, which he proudly grilled to perfection—and his adventurous spirit defined the essence of his character.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his siblings Harry James McGee, Lamont Earl McGee, Lenita Walker, Darlene McGee, Ronald McGee, Scott G. Carter, Jan A. Carter, Torre Carter, and one son, Quincy L. Thompson. He also mourned the loss of aunts Jane (Charles) Hyman, Janet Carter, and Emma Carter, along with special friends Donald Creech, and Omar Powell.
Left to honor Greg's memory are his cherished children: Damian Dixon, Shaunta (Kellen Sr.) Draper, Marcus Whitmore (Bra'Onne Reagan), and Porsha Hunt. Additionally, he is survived by his adored grandchildren: Quinchaya Thompson, Torreon Thompson, Sireya Dixon, Olivia Dixon, Kellen Draper Jr., Kyrie Draper, Nation Whitmore, Nasir Whitmore, Nasiah Whitmore, and Gia Jobe.
Greg's siblings, Marlene (Herbert) Dunn, Joyce (Guy) Palmeri, Irene McGee, and Lavern (Shelly) Carter, stand united in their shared memories of their beloved brother. His lasting impact is also felt by his longtime best friend and former companion, Tamla R. Hunt, as well as his special cousin, Erica Lynn Thomas.
The circle of those mourning Greg's departure extends to special friends Antonio Thompson, Farinzo Stinson, Lennie "Lynwood" Muhammad, and Keith Murray. The bond is further strengthened by his "Kappa" Brothers, Peter Gibbs, Bruce Adams, Marque Riley, Eric Shepard, Danny Harris, Kermit Redmon, Anthony Watkins, and Lawrence Abrams. Together, with a host of relatives and friends, they find solace in the memories and shared experiences that will forever hold a place in their hearts.
The family invites friends and well-wishers to join them on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 pm at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Reverend Maurice Lawson will deliver the eulogy.
May Greg Lamont Carter's soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire love, faith, and camaraderie within the hearts of all who knew him.
