Obituary

Gwendolyn Marine (Jones) Butler, 73, died peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Trinity Hospital.

She was born in Steubenville, OH to her beloved parents Vernon and Delphine Jones. Gwen's life was a testament to love and family. She met the love of her life, John H. Butler Jr., and they were united in marriage for 45 years. Gwen's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to all who knew her. She lived her life with integrity and an unwavering love for her family.

Gwen was a graduate of Weir High School. She then completed junior college with an associate's degree in business. Gwen was an established business owner. John and Gwen owned and operated the Safari Lounge bar and restaurant for over ten years. She was a pillar of the community, which was evident in everything from her work to her hobbies. She was a dedicated member of Quinn Memorial AME where she sang in the choir and was also a stewardess. Gwen and John loved riding motorcycles and they were members of the Deacons Motorcycle Club. She was employed by Weirton Steel Corporation and retired after twenty years. Gwen loved to sew, garden, and travel. She would never leave for a trip without her roadmaps, a symbol of her adventurous spirit and her commitment to always finding her way back home.

She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Delphine Jones and her daughter, Leigheal Butler. She is survived by her husband, John H. Butler Jr; son, Raphael Butler of Steubenville and daughter, Arrieal Butler of Youngstown, OH, step children; John and Justin Viers of Steubenville, OH, Johnnie Kay Montgomery-Rimmer of Medford, OR, Cordell Preister and  Monica Miles of Canton, OH, Tedra Alexander of Pittsburgh, PA, siblings; Louis Jones (Belinda) of Winterville, OH, Christine Sartor (Frank) of Jacksonville, FL, Vernon Jones (Gloria) of Jacksonville NC, Maxine Thomas of Monroeville, PA, and Charles Perry Jones of Weirton WV. Grandchildren; Amin Butler of Steubenville, OH, Asaun Saunders of Youngstown, OH, Raphael Butler Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Aniyah Saunders of Youngstown, OH, Terrick and Zacoria Grimm of Steubenville, OH, Johnathan Harton of Steubenville, OH, Nervous Miles of Canton, OH, aunts; Eloise Curenton (William) of Weirton, WV, Linda Lane (Doug) of Saginaw MI, uncle; Willie Frank Jones of Saginaw MI, a host of nieces and nephews and a close cousin Mary Catherine Myers.

The funeral services to honor Gwendolyn's life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Quinn Memorial AME, 515 North Street in Steubenville, Ohio. The wake 9:00am-11:00AM. The wake will take place from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, providing an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects. The funeral services will commence promptly at 11:00am, offering a time for reflection and remembrance.
