IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Handy
Thorn
October 26, 1943 – July 5, 2022
Handy Thorn, 79, of Wintersville, OH made his transition to glory at Trinity West on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida on October 26, 1943 to the late Willie F. Thorn, Sr., and Cornelia (Thompson) Thorn.
Handy graduated from the former Wintersville High School (now Indian Creek High School) with the class of 1961, where he played on the Wintersville Warriors Football Team and ran Track for the Warriors. He was a life-long avid Cleveland Browns fan. Handy had a gentle spirit and you could see him walking along Sunset Blvd. from Steubenville to Wintersville not just during the summer months, but even during the winter months as well. God gave Handy an artistic gift and he could always be seen with a sketch pad, pencils, and pens drawing pictures and caricatures of family, friends, noted people, and God's amazing real estate.
He was a proud Army Veteran and Honorably served his country during the Vietnam Era. He relocated to Cleveland, Ohio after his Army discharge in 1965. He worked and retired from Parker Hannifin, where he worked with innovative technology efforts.
Handy was preceded in death by his daughter Dana Thorn Cathers; brothers: John Shear, Nathaniel Shear, Willie F. Thorn, Jr., and Julius C. Thorn; sisters: Willie Mae Thorn, Anna L. Scott, Vera Sligh, and Rosa Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory his two Grandchildren, Grandson, Grant Cathers of Hawaii; Granddaughter, Savannah Cathers of Atlanta, GA; an ex-wife Annette (Rogers) Thorn, who remained his friend to the end; an ex-wife, Helen Thorn Smith; one brother, Aaron Thorn of Wintersville, OH, three sisters, Barbara (Thomas) Turner-Hymes of Daytona Beach, FL, Sally Whitfield of Elyria, OH, Sandi (Paul) Rue of Steubenville, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 12:00 PM for viewing with the funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM at the Gregory-Martin Chapel at 255 South 7th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.
