It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Almon Freeman at the VA Hospital H J Heinz Campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 4, 2023. He was 83 years old and was born on August 1, 1940, in Mount Hope, Alabama. James was the son of the late James Ivory and Catherine Almon Freeman.
James was preceded in death by his parents, as well as three brothers: Wayne, Theodore, and Ronnie Freeman. He is survived by six siblings: Raymond and Nathaniel Freeman, both of Steubenville, Ohio; Betty Bruce of Canton, Ohio; Jeanette Harris of Petersburg, Virginia; Lavert and Ozella Freeman, both of Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
James proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Steubenville High School in 1958. He worked for several years for the United States Postal Service. He developed a passion for riding and repairing motorcycles as a young adult. James enjoyed listening to R&B and Jazz music and was a sports enthusiast who loved basketball, football, and golf.
A service in memory of James will be held at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL, located at 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m., following a visitation at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Nate Freeman will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
