IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Williams
February 27, 1941 – May 26, 2023
James C. Williams was born to the late Sherman and Velma Williams on February 27, 1941, in Steubenville, Ohio. He departed this earthly life on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Weirton Medical Center.
He received Christ at an early age and has been a lifelong member of Quinn A.M.E. Church, where he was a Trustee and a member of the Men's Usher Board until his health prevented him from participating.
James was fondly called Jimmy by friends and relatives, Giant by close friends, and Uncle Jimmy by the friends of his children and nieces and nephews. He was educated in the Steubenville City School Systems. He obtained the name "Jimmy Giant" after he started his singing career and recorded two songs "Everything Is Going to Be Alright" and "Suddenly." Jimmy did not like the road life and decided to end his singing career. He worked for and retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel.
Jimmy was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan. He loved to travel. He and his wife Mazie traveled throughout the States and abroad with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the yearly Bus trips rendered by his church.
He was a good dresser and set standards high for his appearance, kindness, and work ethic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Mark Williams and daughter Tyra West; his stepson Donald Creech; three brothers, Sherman Jr, William, and Isaiah Williams; 3 Sisters, Lula Thompson, Shirley Crawley, and Thelma Alexander.
He leaves a lifetime of joyous memories, having touched so many lives. His legacy includes a host of family members and close friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Mazie; one son Terrance of Akron, OH; Two Stepsons, Andre (Rhonda) and James Creech of Steubenville; Two Stepdaughters, Fena Creech of Steubenville and Desiree Glenn (Greg) of Columbus, OH.; a wealth of cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members, and friends, from both near and far.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of his life celebration, 1:00 pm at Quinn A.M.E. Church, 515 North Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
