José Alfredo
Alvarez Rodriguez
May 14, 1961 — Oct 8, 2026
Youngstown
José Alfredo Alvarez Rodriguez, affectionately known as Cheo, Cheo Bugalu, Chichirre, Tres Patas, and Boca Chula, was born on May 14, 1961, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, to Herminio Alvarez and Adela Alvarez, of Loíza, Puerto Rico.
José was the beloved grandson of Auleria Berrios. He grew up in Puerto Rico and spent much of his life in Cataño, where he was well known and loved throughout his community.
A beloved brother and treasured uncle, José shared his life with a loving family that included Carmen Nazario, also known as Evelyn; Hilda Nazario; Herminio “Junito” Alvarez; Maria Victoria “Toyi”; and his brothers-in-law, Victor and Oscar.
He shared a special bond with his many nieces and nephews, including Mari Angelis Rodriguez Campbell, Karla Rodriguez, Zunila Alvarez, Marayelis, Juancho, Yvette, Puruco, Glenny, Rascalito, Tatiana, and Papo, as well as his other beloved nieces and nephews.
Although José had no biological children, he loved and cared for children in his life as his own. That love reflected his caring heart and the important place family held in his life.
José worked with Campbell and was a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. Throughout Los Caseríos de Juanamatos in Cataño, Puerto Rico, he was known for his skill, his lively personality, and the lasting impression he made on those around him.
He enjoyed playing dominoes, spending time with family and friends, and sharing laughter. Irma Vidot also held a special place in his life.
José was surrounded by people who loved and cared for him. Hilda Nazario played an important role in his care and managed authorized matters on his behalf. Teresa Hisks and Maria Adela were also among the special people in his life.
José will be remembered for his unforgettable personality, his many nicknames, the laughter he shared, and his love for family and friends. The memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, Cheo. You will forever be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.
