Joseph Lewis Elder, 59, of Steubenville, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Trinity Medical Center West. Born on March 25, 1964, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late James A. Elder Sr. and Myrle (Wade) Elder.

Known affectionately as Joey, he embraced the Baptist faith and spent his formative years attending Second Baptist Church in Steubenville. Educated in the Steubenville City Schools system, Joey worked diligently throughout his life, most recently as a stocker for Family Dollar, showcasing a strong work ethic.

Joey was a devoted father who cherished his family, and his adventurous spirit added a unique flavor to their shared experiences. He found joy in laughter, fun, and reminiscing about good times with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joey was preceded in death by one sister, Tina Elder, and one grandson, Markis Rashad Hopkins Jr.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his children: Ryesa Elder, Joseph Elder Jr., Faliesha Elder, Riley Jackson, Jazmine Elder, Aleacia Elder, Vanesha Elder; grandchildren: Patrick Wilder, Onica Elder, Eireanna Pruitt, Lamont Pruitt Jr., Aramoni Massey, Jacion Royster, Adream Butler, Jabari Williams, Lyric Williams, and JahZaire Williams; great-granddaughter: Leona Moldovan; siblings: James Elder Sr., John Elder, Jeff Elder, Virginia Elder Owens, and Ayana Jeter; aunt: Stephanie Luke; uncle: Terrance Elder Sr.; his significant other Melvina Palmer; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Please convey condolences for the family through Joey's online guestbook.
