Josephine Austin Underwood was born December 9, 1934, to the late Mary Elizabeth Chambers and Walter Austin in Macon, Georgia.

Josephine was Baptist by faith and attended Second Baptist Church for years and later moved her membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Steubenville. Shopping was her passion and it showed as she was known for wearing her fancy hats. Josephine was a valued employee for the center of Music for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elizabeth Chambers, and Walter Austin; her husband, Ernest Underwood, Jr; two sisters, Mary Alice Frye, and Emma Mae Frye; and one late brother.

She is survived by her two daughters, Debby Austin of Steubenville, OH; and Renee Austin of Savannah Georgia; two grandkids, Warren E. Austin of Steubenville, OH; and Tawantha T. Austin of Maricopa, Arizona; nine great-grandkids, Djoser Austin of Akron, OH; Trevaun, and Warren Austin, II, both of Steubenville, OH; Eartha Dalton, Ceanie Austin, Mary Jane Trice, Honesty Crawford, Ja'Meszha Crabtree, and James Crabtree, Jr; two great-great grandkids, Liam Michael Trice, and Emmariah Isabel Trice; a host of other relatives and friends.

Per Josephine's wishes, services will be held privately for her family. Inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio.
