Joyce L. Smith was born on December 14, 1942 to the late Calvin L. West and Mr. Clifford West in Weirton, WV.
Joyce was the youngest sibling out of three girls with one sibling Carolyn R. Jeter preceding her in death. The oldest sibling, Wilma Dalton, survives the two sisters.
Joyce departed this earth on Sunday, August 21, 2016 ascending to a place of eternal rest and peace with our Heavenly Father.
Joyce was a graduate of Weirton High School. At an early age she taught Sunday school at St Peters AME Church in Weirton. While residing in Weirton, she later married and gave birth to the oldest surviving son William J. Smith Sr., later after moving to 312 Ohio Street on Weir Ave in Weirton she was blessed with two twin daughters, LaVonne, and LaVerne and lastly another son, Brandon. They are all surviving children of Joyce and they deeply cherish her memories.
At mid steam, she became an active member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She made sure every Sunday we had our favorite bird (fried chicken), not to forget the pots of spaghetti she use to make. A cook she was, indeed!
She later worked 18 years for LaBelle View Nursing Home and retired from Sienna Woods Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center after 23 years of employment. At work she was loved by everyone she touched because of her belief in mankind, and for her compassionate caring and loving heart.
Her hobbies of course were cooking, hanging out with neighbors, when neighbors were (real) neighbors and spending time with all her nieces, nephews, and especially giving time to her own children and not to mention other children from around the Weir Avenue yards.
As her children went on in life and grandchildren were made, she later moved to Steubenville, OH., with her husband John West. This was her last move before going up to yonder, to be with our Heavenly Father. She will be missed enormously and has a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends that will miss her in the same matter.
