Juliette Jeter, age 79, of Huntsville, Alabama, returned to her heavenly home on February 23, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital.
Juliette was born on June 28, 1944, in Talladega, Alabama, the beloved daughter of the late Nellie Phillips Hython and the late Green Wesley Penn.
Throughout her life, Juliette demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and a commitment to her community. She worked at L.C. Williams Funeral Home and at The Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville, Ohio. Juliette also dedicated many years of service to Weirton Steel Corporation in Weirton, West Virginia. Her exceptional cooking skills were known and cherished by everyone who knew her, and she took great joy in playing bingo.
Juliette was an active member of the Fraternal Organization of The Eastern Star and The Elks of Steubenville, Ohio. She was known for her firm yet loving nature, deeply caring for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Phillips Hython and Green Wesley Penn; her daughter, Tammy Lynn Smallwood; two sisters, Sara Nell Penn and Elaine Steele; two brothers, Lawrence L. (Fly) Newton and Jerome Foster; and one stepbrother, Marvin Penn.
Juliette is survived by her loving children: Nancy Louise Butler (Steve) of Virginia, Darlene Carol Zacharias (Charles) of Florida, Charlene Carol Hunt-Miles (James) of Ohio, and James Hunt (Leticia) of Texas. She is also survived by her brother Edmund Newton (Rose) of Virginia, and her stepbrother Wesley Penn. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren: Marykay Smallwood (Virginia), Kristina Lynn Ford (Alabama), Thomas Abraham Ford Jr. (Pennsylvania), Latasha Shantel Ford (Virginia), Shanea Renee' Prentice (Ohio), Jasmine Michel'Le Brown (Ohio), Jericia Marie Brown (Ohio), Jordan Mitchel Alderman-Zacharias (Ohio), and Jabari Marcus Alderman-Zacharias (South Carolina). She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Special cousins Patricia Gamble, Catrina Washington (California), Angela Worthy (Michigan), and Adrian Washington (California) held a special place in her heart. Juliette was also blessed with bonus daughters Margaret Fisher, Patricia Fisher, and Chesney Jones.
Juliette Jeter's life was a testament to hard work, love, and community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Juliette's life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at noon, at the Gregory-Martin Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Friends may gather with the family at the chapel 30 minutes before the life celebration. A repast will follow at Applebee's Grill, 389 John Scott Highway in Steubenville.
