IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lettie Elizabeth
Rice
February 17, 1944 – October 12, 2024
Lettie Elizabeth Rice gained her heavenly wings on October 12, 2024. Born on February 17, 1944, in Bellaire, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Cleo Mosby.
From a young age, Lettie was immersed in her faith, being baptized early in life and actively participating in church activities, including singing in youth choirs. She later became a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church until her health began to decline. Lettie dedicated over 30 years of her life working in Housekeeping at Ohio Valley Hospital, where she served as head of the union before her well-deserved retirement.
In 1961, Lettie met and married Gilbert Wallace, Sr., with whom she lovingly raised six beautiful children. Their life together was filled with joy and shared experiences until his passing in 1987. Lettie continued to embrace life, marrying Claude Rice in 1995, who also preceded her in death in 2018.
As a grandmother, Lettie was exceptional. She was not just a grandmother but a second mother to her grandchildren, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and delicious meals. Lettie's nurturing spirit, generosity, and unwavering love were the cornerstones of her family life. She was a true woman of virtue, whose legacy will be felt for generations to come.
Lettie is now reunited in eternal rest with her beloved son, Gilbert Wallace, III; her parents; her husbands; and her brothers, William, Nathan, Edward, and David Mosby.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by her children: Violet, Paul, JoAnn, Tonya, and Shontee' Wallace; her grandson, Niko Wallace, whom she raised as a son; and 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Lettie is also survived by her brother, Joseph Mosby; her sisters, Dorothy (Gilbert) Robins, Margaret Mosby, Shirley (Leonard) Marshall, Loretta Mosby, and Fannie Mosby; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Lettie Elizabeth Rice will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Gregory-Martin Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street, Steubenville, Ohio.
