Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of LeVarga "Lou" Brown Sr., who departed this life on February 10, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 7, 1945, in Greensboro, Georgia, Lou was the beloved son of the late Mitchell and Birda (Bickers) Brown.

Lou dedicated 30 years of hard work and service to the City of Weirton, building not just a career, but lasting friendships along the way. Outside of work, he found joy in life's simple pleasures—spending peaceful days fishing, testing his luck at the casino, and cheering for his beloved Cleveland Browns. Every year, he held steadfast to the belief that this would finally be the year they made it to the Super Bowl.

Known for his infectious laughter and quick wit, Lou had a natural ability to bring smiles to those around him. He loved to joke, tell stories, and make people feel at home, ensuring that everyone who crossed his path felt welcomed and valued. But above all else, Lou cherished his family. His greatest joy was found in the moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored their fun-loving and devoted "Pap-Pap."

Lou was preceded in death by his infant daughter, his parents, his beloved mother and father-in-law Berry and Carrine Jeter, his sister-in-law Ann Saxton, his brother-in-law Berry "Tudy" Jeter, his brothers Lester and Willie Brown, his sisters Dorothy "Dot" Cosby and Geraldine "Geri" Cosby, and his precious granddaughter Ashley Brown.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Jeter) Brown, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. He is also survived by his loving children, LeVarga Brown Jr. (Georgina), Stacey (Tony) Smith, and Jeffrey (Darlene) Brown; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought endless light into his life; six beloved siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Lou's presence in our lives was a gift, and his legacy of laughter, kindness, and love will continue to shine through all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the stories we share, the memories we cherish, and every Browns game we watch with hope—just as he always did.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Gregory-Martin Funeral Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Paris Cemetery in Paris, PA.
