Obituary

Lewis "Duni" Thompson Jr., 87, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2025. He was born on October 17, 1938, in Dooly County, Georgia, the son of Louis Sr. and Minnie L. Thompson.

Lewis graduated from Weir High School in 1957 and spent many years working as a welder, retiring from Weirton Steel in 1992. His family remembers him as a hardworking man with a good heart who was always there when needed. After retirement, Lewis continued his service to the community by transporting local Veterans to medical appointments, serving on the Weir Ave/North End Reunion Committee, and becoming a Board Member for the Dunbar Recreation Center in Weirton.

Known for his patience, gentle nature, and warm sense of humor, Lewis was a straightforward and dependable man who enjoyed quiet moments and the simple things life had to offer. He never asked for much and found his greatest joy in spending time with family. Moments shared with his mother, family reunions, gatherings, and long phone calls were among his happiest times. He also loved cheering on the Golden State Warriors and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Sr. And Minnie L. Thompson; sisters, Azzie Gregory and Viola Thompson; his brother, Rickey D. Thompson; his nephews, Arthur "Artie" Thompson, Kirk Jones and Kenneth "Peachy" M. Miller; and several other beloved relatives and close friends.

Lewis leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Helen Thompson; his children, Antonio Thompson Sr. and Stephanie (Harold) Tyson; his grandchildren, Antonio Jr., Whitney, Lamar, Omar, Chrissy, and Tyasiah; and his great-grandchildren, Catalina and Lamar Jr. He is also survived by his siblings, Deane (Jesse) Bonner; Arthur "Dead Eye" (Dee) Thompson; and Earlean V. Jones; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends and extended family who will carry his memory forward.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located at the corner of Weir Avenue and Kessel Street in Weirton, West Virginia. Viewing will take place from 11 am until the funeral service begins at 12 noon. Pastor Rudy McAllister will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Paris Cemetery.
