IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Jeter
September 20, 1956 – July 24, 2024
Mary Elizabeth (Harris) Jeter, born on September 20, 1956, to Elouise and Jacey Harris in Steubenville, Ohio, made her heavenly transition on July 24, 2024. Affectionately known as "The General" by her grandchildren, Mary spent her life helping others and ensuring the well-being of those around her. She loved calling her children and grandchildren just to check in and remind them of the values she instilled in them.
After many dedicated years as a nurse's aide, Mary enjoyed spending time with friends, chatting and laughing whether over the phone, sitting outside, or during monthly outings with her classmates. Her love for people led her to continue working as a custodian at Steubenville High School, where she graduated in 1974. There, she became a beloved figure, with many students affectionately calling her their mother or grandmother.
A die-hard Big Red fan and loyal supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mary loved to tease her friends who rooted for rival teams, always confident in her teams' success.
Mary was a dedicated member of the Pastor's Aide at Second Baptist Church, where she generously offered her help whenever her health allowed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacey and Elouise Harris, and her granddaughter Amari Pratt. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, LaToya Jeter and LaKisha Jeter, and her nine grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Jaziah Blackwell, Samaria Blackwell, Shayna Blackwell, Troy Pratt Jr., Sariyah Pratt, Shannon White Jr., Harlym Carlisle, Aarin Carlisle, and Genesis Carlisle. She also leaves behind one great-granddaughter, Alaia Dream Blackwell; her beloved sister and best friend, Barbara (Harris) Wilson; a special sister, Tina Feaster; her niece, Lashauna Wilson; her nephew, Isaiah Wilson; and a dear friend, June Bowden. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Vanessa Thompson for her compassionate care of Mary as her health declined.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service, 1:00 pm at Second Baptist Church, 717 Adams Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Pastor Jeffrey Stanford will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Steubenville.
