Mary M. Jones Smith, 79, of Roanoke, departed this life Saturday, September 29, 2012. She was born in Hampton March 23, 1933. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Henry Smith Sr.; parents, the Rev. Seymour Oliver Jones and Cynthia Garrett Jones; brother, Henry Oliver Jones; sister, Margaret Jones Joyner; brother-in-law, Samual Christian and sister-in-law, Ella Jones. Those left to mourn her passing are her children, the Rev. Crystal Smith, John Henry Smith Jr. (Wanda), Jacquelyn Smith Pressley (Lewis), Michael H. Smith and Sonia Smith Gravely (Harvey); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren ; goddaughter, Karla Gregory Martin (Hardin); sisters, Bessie Jones Smith, Fannie (Baby Sis) Jones Giles (James) and Brenda Jones Christian; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Johnny R. Stone officiating. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call for viewing Wednesday, October 3, 2012, from noon until 4 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis and viewing will resume at 5 p.m. at the church.
