Melissa Ann DeMatteis, formerly known as Melissa White, passed away peacefully at her home in Weirton, West Virginia, on Sunday, February 25th. Born on January 6, 1976, Melissa was a strong-willed, independent, and adventurous woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale White Sr., and Linda Minger (Fluharty). Melissa grew up in Weirton, West Virginia, where she attended school. She embraced the role of a mother and homemaker at a young age, dedicating herself to providing for her children.
Melissa was fiercely loyal and loving, especially when it came to her children and family. She had an easygoing nature and was known for her friendly demeanor, making friends wherever she went. Melissa had a remarkable ability to adapt to any situation and find joy in life's simple pleasures.
Although her responsibilities as a mother took precedence, Melissa had a deep love for the ocean and the beach. She cherished dolphins and had a vast collection of dolphin-themed memorabilia. One of her greatest joys was fulfilling her dream of swimming with dolphins, an experience she treasured deeply.
In her leisure time, Melissa enjoyed visiting cafes and casinos to play slots and keno. She found solace and enjoyment in these simple pleasures, cherishing the moments spent with loved ones.
Melissa leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by her four beloved children: John DeMatteis Jr., Ashley White, and her partner Preston Blacknell of Steubenville, Ohio, as well as her youngest son, Tommy L. Hayhurst of Texas. She is also survived by her siblings: Barbara and Tommy Rice, Jeffrey White, Tonya and Clifford 'Bubby' Minger Jr., Ralph Minger, and Lesa Dalrymple, all of Weirton, and Dale White Jr. of North Carolina; and her step-father Clifford Minger Sr.
In accordance with Melissa's wishes, there will be no formal services, and she will be cremated. A gathering will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Victorian Hall & Tavern, 1801 Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton, West Virginia, for close family and friends to honor Melissa's memory.
