IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvin
Luke
August 2, 1951 – June 14, 2021
Melvin Luke was born on August 2, 1951, to the union of James and Louise (Ware) Luke in Cleveland, Ohio.
He graduated from Cleveland Public Schools. He met the love of his life in Cleveland, Ohio, Stephanie Wade and they were married in 1972. After a few years in Cleveland, the family relocated to her hometown; Steubenville, Ohio. Together they loved and reared four children.
Melvin was a Christian by faith. Melvin worked in communications and after retirement, he went back to work for Renzenberger, Inc., a transport company. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 274 David Walker. Melvin was known in the community and was lovingly referred to as Uncle Melvin. He believed in giving to others and would give to those in need including cutting grass for others that couldn't maintain their yards.
He had the gift of gab and could carry a conversation in jest or life experiences. He tried to reach back and help others in every way, a true modern-day Robin Hood. Uncle Melvin was very proud of his yard and decorations at Christmas time; he even won a few decorating contests. Above all, he adored his family and took the time to care for and give love to them.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Luke, a daughter, Chellece; grandsons, Ke'ondre and David, Jr.; two siblings, Louise Elaine Roper and Roni Luke.
On June 14, 2021, he lost his battle with cancer. He will forever be remembered by: his devoted wife, Stephanie; his dear children, William Wade, Mona Wade McIntyre, and Louise Carter; His cherished mother, Louise Luke; Seven Grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Alvin and Marion Luke and Renee Hill; a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL AND LIFE EVENT CENTER, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio.
