Michael Otis, 78, of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026. He was born June 11, 1947, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Ulysee “Candy” Jones and Rose Lee Jones.


Michael was a proud graduate of Steubenville High School and later honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed by U.S. Can Corporation until his retirement. Michael was a dedicated member of Progressive Black Men, Hook, Line and Sinker, and American Legion Post 274.


Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia Otis; his daughter, Melanie Otis; granddaughter, Brandi; grandson, Randy; and his sisters, Valerie Boykin and Patricia Henderson.


He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Michael Otis and Brandon Otis, both of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Gregory Jones (Billie), Ulysee Jones Jr., and Carl Jones (JoAnn); his sister, Crissondra Jones; his stepbrothers, Stanley Montgomery, Rosell Dixon Jr. (Terrie), and Dajuan Jones (Randi); along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.


Michael will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 Noon at Gregory-Martin Funeral Home, Steubenville Chapel, 255 South 7th Street, Steubenville, Ohio.


Following the services, family and friends are invited to attend a repast beginning at 3:00 p.m. at 25 Clifford Street, New Cumberland, West Virginia 26047.
