Michael Lee Thornton, 73, was called home on December 30, 2020, at Trinity Medical Center West. He was born October 21, 1947, in Steubenville , Ohio, to the union of William and Helen Thornton.
Michael was Christian by faith . He worked many various jobs until he started working in physical therapy at the Royal Pavillion in Steubenville, Ohio. He retired after many years of service. Mikey J, as he was known to most, was a super big sports fan. He was a Pittsburgh Steeler and The Ohio State Buckeye football superfan. He spent every night watching Jeopardy while he and his wife, Michelle, enjoyed dinner and each other's company. He was liked watching Westerns, cooking, playing cards, and was a jokester. Mikey J most of all loved and adored his family and cherished every moment he spent with his wife, kids, grandchildren, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents , William and Helen Thornton ; siblings , William, Robert, Jack, Marie, and Patricia Thornton ; nieces , Gynneane , Myki, and Tammy; and one nephew , Da'Ron Thornton .
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years who he adored , Spring Michelle Thornton; children , Lyn Thornton, of New York; Dan Thompson of Steubenville, Ohio, Lucretia Talison of Columbus, Ohio , Michael McGee of Atlanta, Georgia, Ramond (Shartia) Birden and Mykeyia Birden both of Virginia , and Marie Smith and Michael S. Thornton both of Steubenville, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren ; eight great- grandchildren ; siblings , Barbara Nelson of Pennsylvania, Jenny Smoot of Columbus, Ohio, and Timmy (Karen) Thornton of Steubenville, Ohio; special friends , Bo Lindsey, Chuckie Hython ; a host of nieces , nephews , and many friends
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at noon at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL AND LIFE EVENT CENTER, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville , Ohio. Reverend Maurice Lawson will deliver the eulogy . Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
