Obituary

Mytia Dawn Barker, 24, of Ravenna, formally of Steubenville, Ohio, died tragically on August 9, 2020. She died in Steubenville, Ohio attending a memorial vigil as an innocent victim to senseless gun violence. She was born March 14, 1996, to Joseph Barker and Heather Hamilton.

She graduated from Steubenville High School where she excelled in academics and was a three-sport athlete. She played volleyball, basketball, and softball. After high school, she attended Bethany College for a year before transferring to Youngstown State University (YSU). She graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice. While attending YSU, Mytia made the dean's list and was also chosen as the "women of color" an honor at YSU.

She worked in management for FedEx. She loved the outdoors and traveling, her garden, family, and friends. She was preparing to enter law school in September at The University of Akron. She was very outgoing, always stayed positive, a jokester, and a person who could light up any room. She was the most caring and loving person you could ever meet. She was kind-hearted and had a love for animals.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Delores Barker; and one aunt, Annette Barker.

She is survived by her parents, Joseph Barker and Heather (fiancé, Gary Williams) Hamilton; sisters, Tenia Barker, Tarinisa "Peachy" Lindsey; brothers, My'Kel Lindsey, Maurice Jury; Tayveon Crawford; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and her precious nephew, Sincere Antione; grandparents, Eric and Rose Hamilton

The family will receive friends from 2-8 PM on Monday, August 17, 2020, at the GREGORY-MARTIN CHAPEL AND LIFE EVENT CENTER, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio. A final viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of her life celebration, 11 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the funeral chapel. Bishop Jermaine V. Moore Sr. will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
