Octavis McGhee, age 75, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on March 26, 1949, in Leasburg, North Carolina, to the late Glenn Thomas McGhee and Evelyn (née Burton) Royster McGhee.

Octavis was educated through the Steubenville City Schools (Big Red) and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Jefferson Technical College. A talented singer, she shared her voice with renowned groups, including The Stereos and East Coast, leaving an enduring mark in the music community. In addition to her musical talents, Octavis was celebrated in her family for her culinary expertise, especially her famous potato salad, hot water cornbread, and her upside-down pineapple and German chocolate cakes.

Her creativity extended beyond the kitchen. Known for her skills in arts and crafts, she often took on seamstress work, upholstered furniture, and even designed outfits for her singing groups. Octavis also had a green thumb, finding joy and peace in tending to her plants and garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Josephine Smith, Mary Stewart, Lucille Stewart, Shirley King, Alice Owens, Anna Jones, and Carlston McGhee.

She is survived by her two sons, Marcus (Elaine) McGhee and Embro McGhee; three grandchildren, Mya, Marcus Jr., and Marques McGhee; one great-granddaughter, Ailani McGhee; and five siblings, Thomasina Stinson, Donice Parris, Brenda McGhee, Tony McGhee, and Darlene Turner. Octavis also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many dear friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mr. Eric Tibbs, a devoted friend who supported Octavis and her family through her illness.

The family would also like to acknowledge Octavis's niece and nephew, Elaine Owens and Farinzo Stinson, for their loving care and support.
