Panzy Benah Smothers, born November 24, 1948, in Williamson, West Virginia, peacefully departed this life on March 4, 2026, at Methodist West Hospital in Houston, Texas. She suffered a stroke on December 20, 2025, and after a courageous fight, she went home to be with the Lord.

Panzy was the beloved daughter of the late Margaret Lovett and Carl Warren. She was a proud graduate of Williamson High School.

Panzy devoted more than 50 years of her life to nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career was rooted in compassion and care for others. She worked in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Georgia, Williamson Memorial Hospital, and Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH), where she retired after more than 40 years of dedicated service. For many years she worked in Obstetrics and Pediatrics, caring for mothers and children and touching the lives of countless families.

Known for her kind heart and loving spirit, Panzy never met a stranger. She opened her home and heart to many children who needed love, support, or guidance and often treated them as her own.

She was a proud Pittsburgh Steelers fan and would often say, “Win, lose, or tie, I’m a Steelers fan until I die.”

Panzy enjoyed watching game shows, Law & Order: SVU, and the “Chicago Wednesday” lineup. Watching movies with her was always entertaining because she would talk to the television and ask questions throughout the entire movie.

Family meant everything to Panzy. She loved supporting the children in her family and could often be found cheering from the stands at basketball games, soccer matches, volleyball games, dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, and track meets. Whether near or far, she was always ready to get in the car and go. She also loved traveling and cherished family vacations over the years.

Panzy was a faithful member of Christ Temple Church in Williamson, West Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers LaFate “Peaches” Lovett and Jeffrey “Cory” Warren, and her sisters Teresa Warren,  Marvel Turner, and Paula “Nita” Baker.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughters, Tomika Smothers (Demetri) of Houston, Texas, and Cierra Campbell (Lamont) of Georgetown, Kentucky, whom she raised and loved as her own; her grandchildren, Chaléyah “Shaye” Smothers of Williamson, West Virginia, Janézhia “Tink” Smothers of Houston, Texas, Jaaliyah Warren of Pikeville, Kentucky, and Layia Campbell, Armani Campbell, and Ja’Quez Campbell, all of Georgetown, Kentucky; special grandchildren Kyson “Bubba” Bell and Kemar “Boo Boo” Joplin, both of Williamson, West Virginia; her beloved great grandpup Nova; brothers Arthur “Duke” Lovett, Terry Warren, Robert “Jerry” Warren Sr., all of Williamson, West Virginia, Michael Miller Warren (Angela) of Cleveland, Ohio, and Clarence H. Miller (Kerrie) of New Jersey; sisters Leona Warren and Tonia Warren of Williamson, West Virginia, Carla Warren, Terry Norvell (Chevelle), Debbie Thomas (Sherman) of New Jersey, and Pam Whitestone (Frank) of Charleston, West Virginia; special friend Costella Hairston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Christ Temple Church, 101 E. 4th Avenue, Williamson, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the church, with Elder Thomas Moore delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.
