Patricia K. Axel, 78, of Youngstown, transitioned from this life on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Mercy Health, St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.


Ms. Patricia K. Axel was born on November 8, 1947, to the late George Axel Jr. and Clara Axel in Youngstown, Ohio.


She was preceded in death by her father, George Axel Jr.; mother, Clara Axel; brother, George Axel III; son, Patrick Hymes; daughter, Andrea Hymes; and daughter-in-law, Ryan Hymes.


Patricia graduated from North High School in 1965. She began her career in therapeutic care for the State of Ohio in 1982. Patricia later went on to further her education and graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Youngstown State University in 2011.


Patricia was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to caring for her mother. She enjoyed cooking, sharing her recipes, and gathering with her family and friends.


She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Ariel Umara; sons, Jason Hymes and Demond R. Hymes; daughter-in-law, Carmella Hymes; grandchildren, Patrick, ZaNyah (Maurice), Jason Jr., RyaAnna, Jawonn, Shimara, Demond, and Diamonn (Josh); 15 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends; and her special friend, Linda Williams.


Patricia lived a vibrant life filled with love, kindness, and joy. She touched many hearts and will be deeply missed. Her spirit will forever inspire those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.


A homegoing celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Union Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
