Obituary

Reverend Alfred Eugene Hunt, age 83, of Steubenville, Ohio departed this life on December 26, 2021. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, he lived most of his childhood in the neighboring town of Brilliant where he became a graduate of Brilliant High School in 1956. Upon graduation, he went to Central State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended the University of Chicago Divinity School and then went on to attend Northern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree in Theology.

He taught mathematics in Steubenville and Columbus, Ohio, Gary, Indiana and Parkersburg, West Virginia, at the high school and university levels.

He most recently served as the pastor for 25 years at Zion Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV. He previously served as pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Steubenville, First Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana, Beth Eden Baptist Church in Chicago, IL, and First Baptist Church in Bellaire.

Of his many accomplishments, he was extremely proud of his first "Service of Installation" as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1969. He also cherished his Pathfinder Award he received from Steubenville High School for his work in the community to enhance the African American culture in the area of education. He enjoyed volunteer work, touring museums, gardening and taking pictures of family and friends to add to is never-ending collection of photo albums. Lastly, he often spoke of how he enjoyed playing football at Brilliant High School and he was an avid fan of Steubenville Big Red and Ohio State football.

He is preceded in death by parents, Early Hunt and Mary Lee Tate Hunt; sisters, Roberta Bonner, Odeveen Brazil, Mamie Isler, Azzie Hunt, Lucinda Livingston, and "Lula" Francis Arnold; brothers, William "Frank", Early Jr. "Nene", Charles, Beverly and Reverend Samuel "Sammy" Hunt.

He is survived by sisters, Mary Hunt of Akron, Ohio and Ruth Mallory of Steubenville; brothers, Benjamin Hunt of Newport, Rhode Island, John Hunt of Cleveland, Ohio, Paul (Priscilla) Hunt of S. Floral Park, New York, Roy (Donna Rae) Hunt of Wintersville, Ohio, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2021 at 12 noon at Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church, 708 N. 5 ^th Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
