Robert James Austin, known affectionately as "Bobby," passed away on August 25, 2024, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born on July 18, 1947, in Steubenville, Ohio, at Ohio Valley Hospital, Bobby was the son of the late Robert and Katherine Austin. He grew up in Weirton, West Virginia, where he spent most of his life.
A proud graduate of Weir High School's Class of 1967, Bobby went on to serve his country with honor as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Peggy Ann Jones, and the two were married, building a life together until her passing.
Bobby was a man of faith, holding strong to his Christian beliefs. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty to his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Robert and Katherine Austin, and his cherished wife, Peggy.
Bobby leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by his son, Robert J. Austin II; his beloved friend, Jenevieve Oliver; and his siblings, Shirley (Frank) Jeter, Laura (Jack) Austin, Ed Lee (Cheryl) Austin, and Linda Austin. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Treylon, Jason, Brayden, and Tyrek, as well as two great-grandchildren. Bobby's memory will be carried on by his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a host of dear friends and extended family.
A celebration of Bobby's life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Weirton, West Virginia. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Rudy McAllister will officiate the service.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Giridhar Santebennur, Dr. Cherian John, and Dr. John Cherian for their truly special care and support of Robert.
