Robert Lee Thorn, Sr
passed away
peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Trinity Medical Center in
Steubenville
, Ohio.
He was
born
in
Steubenville
, Ohio, to the
union
of the
late
Julius and Beatrice Thorn on March 2, 1937.
He
was
a lifelong member of Mt.
Zion Baptist Church and a
very
active member.
He loved singing and shared his talents in many choirs over the years:
Spiritualaires
, Men of Standards Community Choir, and the Mt.
Zion Men's Chorus.
He also was a member of the
culinary
ministry at the
church
.
Robert graduated from
Steubenville
"Big Red" High School.
He
soon
worked for
Weirton
Steel as a millwright and
retired
after 42 dutiful years of
service
.
"
Buddy
Buddy
", as
he
was
known
, could light up a
room
with his
bright
smile and charming demeanor.
He
had a
heart
of gold
and a
sense
of
humor
that could
lift
up your
day
.
He
never
met
a
stranger
, and everyone
became
his "
Buddy
Buddy
".
He
met
and
married
his
wife Juanita
, and they
shared
23 wonderful years together.
He
cared
deeply
for his
children
and
grandchildren
.
He
was
preceded
in
death
by his
son
, Marlon Thorn;
his
brothers
, Donald and Eddie Thorn;
and a
sister
, Annie Edwards.
Robert leaves to
cherish
his
memory
, his devoted wife, Juanita;
children
, Regina, Robert, Jr.
(Monique)
,
Wylene
, and Carl
Thorn
,
Tameka
(Sam)
Thorn
Burdine
, and
Bedford
(Sonya)
Sheppard;
a
host
of
grandchildren
, great-grandchildren;
nieces
,
nephews
, other
relatives
, his church family, and many dear friends.
Memorial Service: Friday, March 26, 2021, at 1:00 PM, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 221 N. 7th Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Bishop Jermaine Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends at 12 NOON and the Memorial Service will follow at 1: 00 PM.
