Robert L. Whaley, 65, passed away on January 11, 2025, in Maryland. Born on August 10, 1959, in Steubenville, Ohio, Robert was a proud graduate of Steubenville High School and honorably served his country in the United States Navy.

Robert was known for his warm and outgoing personality—he never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. His vibrant spirit and infectious humor made a lasting impact on all who knew him. He dedicated many years to the hospitality industry as a manager, where his kindness and leadership touched the lives of many.

He was preceded in death by his father, William W. Johnson.

Robert leaves behind his beloved wife, Tomomi Nonoue; his devoted mother, Emma Jean Johnson; and his five siblings: Betty Jo Whaley-Stephens, Emma Johnson, William W. Johnson Jr., Carolyn Allen, and Marijean Johnson. He is also survived by his three sons, De'Ante, Corey, and Justin Whaley; six cherished grandchildren; three nephews; and his beloved three furbabies.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Gregory-Martin Funeral Chapel, 255 S. 7th Street in Steubenville, Ohio, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. A procession will take place from the funeral home to Union Cemetery following the visitation.

Robert's legacy of kindness, laughter, and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
