Roberta Slaughter Jeter Jordan, the eldest daughter of the late Robert George Slaughter and Bertha Pettis Slaughter, was born or March 7, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. Roberta had 2 sisters, Dr. Rose Marie Slaughter, and Dr. Millicent Slaughter. She received her formal education in the Cross Creek School District in Wintersville, Ohio. On June 14, 1958, she married George Ralph Jeter.
She had 4 children, the late Jonathan Kentley Jeter, Vincent Michael Jeter, Ramona Jean Jeter-Scarborough, and the late Anthony Ralph Jeter. She also had 2 step children, Arron Jeter and Bryan Jeter. Her grandchildren include: Jonae Jean Carter, Jonathan Jerome Carter, Vincent Tyree, Jamonae Kevilina Scarborough, Dylan Michael Jeter, Deasmine Roper, Savannah Lawson, Aubrey Jeter, and Zachary Jeter. Jalaya Carter and Don Dione Roper are her great-grandchildren.
Roberta went to Mt. Zion Baptist Church as a child and she played the piano for the Sunday School Department. She also accompanied and sang with her sisters who were known as the Slaughter Trio. She was active in the Junior Choir, the Junior Church, and the BYPU (Baptist Young People's Union) and Silver Star Mission in Wintersville.
George and Roberta moved to Cleveland, Ohio. While living there they were an integral part of Church of God and True Holiness; Pastor Elder Albert E Dixon who later became Bishop Albert E. Dixon. Roberta was actively involved in church activities: Women's Willing Workers, True Holiness Choir, Bible Class, and she assisted Sister Dixon in the Music Ministry.
Roberta moved to San Bernardino, California to live with friends who cared for her and helped her find employment and a church, Community Church of God with Pastor Bobby Brown. It was her spiritual home and later the church became known as San Bernardino Christian Center with Pastor Bishop Phillip Powell. She was actively involved in the Women's Ministry, Bible Class, Sunday School and was the church secretary.
On September 29, 1984 she married Deacon Jack Jordan in San Bernardine, California. They moved to Wintersville, Ohio on September 18, 1995 to live in the family home and to care for Roberta's mother. They attended several churches in the area. While they were in the midst of searching they were told of a church that was being built:Agape Apostolic Assembly located on 5th and Slack Street in Steubenville, Ohio with Pastor Elder Robert L. Montgomery. Roberta served as Mother of the Church, church secretary, trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Administrator of the Agape Neighborhood House Homeless Shelter, decorator for most events and was part of the Music Ministry. Mother Jordan also attended Regional District Meetings and The Ohio District Council.
Jack and Roberta's relationship was wholesome, lovely and they remained newly weds for 16 years, 4 months and 3 weeks. Jack passed in February 2001.
Mother Jordan was a member of Slaughter By Design, a family company founded 2005 which was operated with her sisters that specializes in one of a kind seasonal home décor, adorable dolls, tablescapes, framed prints, and their signature floral log and basket.
