Ross W. Lavender Jr.

May 13, 1947 - December 15, 2020

Ross W. Lavender Jr., 73, son of the late Ross W. and Iola Hudson Lavender was born on May 13, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama. On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, he was called home to be with his Heavenly Father.

Ross was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and sung in the Men's Chorus for over 30 years. He was a member of the Men of Standard Tri-State Choir for many years. He later joined Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church, where he was actively working with the Men's Ministry, various committees, and wherever he was needed.


Ross graduated from Steubenville High school and later joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country. After returning from the military, he was employed at Weirton Steel until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion, Progressive Blacks Social Club, Democratic Party, and several city committees, including the Recreation Board.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gussie L. Culbreath, brother, Harold E. Lavender, and a niece, Quiana Lavender.

He leaves a legacy of love to his wife Rose of 49 years; a son Elliott (Sharona) of Lexington, Kentucky; a daughter Ericka Lavender of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two grandsons, Kalin and Elliott Jr; a granddaughter Kayla Lavender, all of Lexington, Kentucky. He also leaves five sisters; Masie, Isabelle, LaTonya Lavender, Rosemary Cain, Latricia (Sonny) Solomon, and Steubenville, Ohio. Three brothers Robert, of Kansas City, Missouri; Curtis and Lorenzo (Renita) Lavender of Steubenville, Ohio. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.


DUE TO COVID-19 PRIVATE FUNERAL SERVICES AT THE CONVENIENCE OF THE FAMILY. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW SERVICES AT UNION CEMETERY.
