Ruel Mitchell of Wintersville, Ohio, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

He was born January 18, 1943, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the union of the late Oscar and Ocy Montgomery Mitchell.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Rhuenette (Rudi) Montle of Sherman Oaks, California.  sister-in-law, Gloria Mitchell and a brother-in-law Keith Dorsey

He was a Christian and was Baptized as a child in the Baptist Faith.

Ruel graduated in 1962 from Steubenville/Wintersville High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He retired from National and Weirton Steel where he worked as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Ruel was a Co-Owner of Mitchell Electrical Contracting/RCM Construction Inc.

Ruel served as Board of Trustee of Jefferson Community College and Gateway Community College in Steubenville, OH.

He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and served as the Past Vice President and President of the local NAACP Chapter.

He was a member of the Martin Luther King Association Steering Committee in Steubenville. He most recently sat on the Jefferson County Housing Authority Board.  Ruel was a life member of the V.F.W., Weirton, WV.  He was also a member of the Ruel spent many of his days serving in the community and several other organizations.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Carolyn Wyatt Mitchell of forty years; five devoted sons, Wyatt, (Katrena) of Dublin, OH; Bomtea,(Tracy) of Inglewood, CA; Ruel Jr ll, of California; Robert and James Mitchell of Steubenville, OH; seven siblings:  Earl and John Mitchell of California; Carol (Lonnie) Hicks;  Janie Dorsey;  Debbie Linzy; Oscar Needom (Marcia) Mitchell, ll, Peter, (Michael) Weise; a brother-in-law, Felden Montle.  Fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
