Obituary

Sarah J. Yates was born on May 10, 1923 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the union of the late Richard and Effie Richardson Yates.

Sarah was Methodist by faith and was an active member of Simpson United Methodist Church.  She was a choir member and enjoyed the fellowship of the senior lady craft makers. Later, Sarah attended Truth Baptist Church.

She was a very social person and never met a stranger.  She had a beautiful sense of humor that attracted people to her.  She was a loving and devoted mother to her only daughter, Olga.  Sarah had many attributes and was known for her culinary skills (chicken and dumplings were a family favorite). Anyone who knew her could depend on her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Effie; her father, with whom she had a special bond, Richard; and her three siblings, Elmer, Raymond, and Ida Belle.

On January 10, 2017, Sarah peacefully departed this life to be with her Savior.  She leaves to rejoice her life lived:  a beloved daughter, Olga; a caring grandson, Shawn Yates; a dear great granddaughter Deyzha Yates; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
