Obituary

Shirley Ann Brown, born on July 6, 1940, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her residence in St. Clairsville, Ohio. She was 83 years old.

Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Juanita (née Catlipp) Vincent. A lifelong resident of Ohio, she was a devoted member of Shiloh Temple Apostolic Church in Bridgeport, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was also a proud member of the Wheeling Elks Lodge.

Professionally, Shirley dedicated many years to Harts, where she worked as a customer service representative until her retirement. She also worked for H & R Block, where she helped countless clients with their tax needs. In her personal life, she met and married the love of her life, James Dixon Brown Jr. Together, they shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love and companionship.

Shirley had a passion for life and many hobbies. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed traveling, loved feeding her family, and found joy in card games and puzzles. Knitting was another of her cherished pastimes. Above all, Shirley was family-oriented, always supportive and present for her children and grandchildren. She was known for her outgoing and outspoken nature, and she was deeply loving.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her children, James Michael and Keith Brown, and her brother, Larry Vincent.

She leaves behind to honor her memory her son, Rodney (Gina) Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada; her daughters, Sonya Gillespie of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Andrea (Larry) Scott of Washington, Pennsylvania. Shirley was a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Nikki (Carl), Nelson (Mendy), Ah'Neisha (Dustin), Erik (Lindsay), Jaylon (Adrian), Ashlie, Alxandrea (Timmy), Taylor, David Jr. (Michelle), Afton, Ashly, Devon and Nicole; and twenty great-grandchildren: Cam'Ron, Tierra, Rielle, Mazik, Carl, Deiondre, Dominik, Journee, Ashor, Eli, Travid, Stephen, Aliyah, Aidyn, Breanna, Thea, Dreya, De Marri, Brynlee, and Koa. She is also survived by her sister, Madelyn Freeman of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Shiloh Temple Apostolic Church, 117 1st Street in Bridgeport, Ohio. A final visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 10:30 am until the celebration of Shirley's life at 11:00 am at the church. Bishop Larry Scott will deliver the eulogy. Inurnment will take place at Paris Cemetery in Paris, Pennsylvania at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.

Shirley's loving spirit, vibrant personality, and unwavering support for her family will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
