Shirley Ann White, 65, beloved sister, niece, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, cousin, and friend, was called to her eternal resting place on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Shirley entered this world on January 9, 1961, in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Lillie Mae Hicks White and Ernest White.
Shirley graduated from The Rayen High School. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. Shirley dedicated her career to education as an English teacher with the Youngstown City School District. She taught at North High School, Princeton, Choffin, and other schools within the district before retiring from Youngstown Rayen Early College.
Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved to bake and was known for her macaroni and cheese and peanut butter cookies. A movie enthusiast, Shirley enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, listening to music, and taking a chance on a few lottery scratch-offs.
Though her time with us was far too short, the love she gave and the wisdom and knowledge she instilled in others will always remain.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Earnest V. White; aunts, Lena Franklin, Geneva Hicks, and Dr. Mary E. Rice; her twin nieces, Kimberly and Krystelle Hicks, whom she helped rear; great-nieces, Jalaeia Gibboney (Christopher), Niyah Hicks, Kennedy, and Kiyah Thomas; great-nephews, Jamiere and Jaidyn McCall; great-great-nephews, Ja’Khi, Carmelo, King, and Amar’e Gibboney; a very special cousin/sister, Debra Cato; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Albert and Cornelia (Turner) Hicks; her sister, Darlene Hicks; two aunts, Eudell Scott, and Lula Cato; and a great-great-niece, Wynter Hicks.
A Homegoing Celebration honoring the life of Ms. Shirley Ann White will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the funeral chapel located at 292 Madison Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44504. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Belmont Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
