Tara Acton Gillespie, 64, passed away on September 10, 2026, at Sienna Hills Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Adena, Ohio.

She was born on May 24, 1962, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Don and Mary Acton. Tara was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and continued her education in the field of law, earning her Juris Doctor degree—an accomplishment of which she was especially proud. She worked as a civil rights investigator for the State of Tennessee, where she was a strong advocate for the rights of others.

A Christian by faith, Tara loved God and believed in the power of positivity. She was a loving and devoted mother and caregiver whose selflessness touched the lives of those around her.

Tara enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, and cooking for those she loved. She was an avid Alabama football fan and had a special love for horses, donkeys, and pandas. She also enjoyed barrel racing and all things beautiful, especially her signature red lipstick. Her beloved cats, Rocky and Stormy, also held a special place in her heart.

Tara leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, John Phillip Gillespie; her son, David Acton; her siblings, John Acton, Preble Acton, and Tanda Solomon; and many other relatives and friends.

Tara’s strength, compassion, and devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

No public services will be observed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gregory-Martin Funeral Home.
